Marita Gootee   Fine Art Photography

Marita Gootee is a Professor of Art at Mississippi State University. She received a MFA from Indiana State University in 1985 and a BA from the College of Mount Saint Joseph on the Ohio in 1981. She has been selected for 5 times for the Mississippi Invitational at the Mississippi Museum of Art that showcases the state’s most significant contemporary artists which is more than any other artist in the state. Her work was selected for the 2008 “Women to Watch” Invitational at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC. Her work has been displayed at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Colorado and at Kendall College of Art and Design. She received a Mississippi Arts Commission Artist Fellowship Grant in 2010/15. She grew up in Jasper Indiana as a middle child in a large family. She often feels like Atlas but knows laughter is best way to deal with life.
